Articles of Faith/Video of the Day: Mr. Rogers’ Appreciaton of Everyday Graces and Gifts
Today, I celebrate a man who for 40-plus years educated and embraced America and the the world. Fred Rogers was an ordained a Presbyterian minister by 1963 and had completed graduate studies in Child Development by the time his PBS show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood made its way across TV screens nationwide 1968 with its brand of warm, fuzzy comfort and sincerity (Family Communications Inc.). Rogers’ had guests of all cultures, walks and careers on his show. Many of my first exposures to cultures and experiences outside my personal, tiny world were due to Fred Rogers opening those doors to me. Whether the topic was how bagels are made or how to fold paper origami style, or whether a show would mark my first exposure to seeing-eye dogs, I will never forget the many gifts it gave me in the name of bettering the world for glory of a higher cause. May Fred Rogers be forever blessed!
