Quoting Poetically: Aristotle on the True Purpose of Collective Power

aristotle.jpg
384 B.C.-322 B.C.

“A state is not a mere society, having a common place, established for the prevention of mutual crime and for the sake of exchange…Political society exists for the sake of noble actions, and not of mere companionship.”Aristotle, Politics (read more quotations).

Aristotle’s assertion that there is a common good in the role of every organized society though idealistic and quixotic (as in being a kind of fix-all) is one shared by many governments. But the question becomes, “Does a given citizenry function in this way or has it become a greedy bastion for corruption? Is it seeking self-interest, of that of its populous? If it answers in the latter, and seeks a higher good, it can and will function well.

Wax for the greatest good.
