Today, January 20, 2009 marks the dawn of a new era in American politics and culture - namely that man named Barack Hussein Obama will become the forty-forth president of the united states. But moreover is it the realization of a hope. It is hope expressed in too many dreams deferred by cultural divisions of race and ethnicity, by socioeconomic stigmas and political partisanship. Barack Obama’s story seems to trample these boundaries. He is the son of Kenyan man he barely knew and a White women whose anthropological pursuits would lead her to believe in a world where knowing in itself was so important that she would immerse her child in the cultures of Indonesia, Hawaii, and the rural United States believing that her son could be anything he strove to be. He was a young man who with the help of loving grandparents would turn away from a bout with drugs to eventually go to law school; and do so not for the want of riches but because he was raised to believe that all people should and can have hope of making a better life for themselves. He proves that a Black man birthed by a single mother at her young but vibrant age of 18 can have a chance to fulfill his potential provided a he has a loving family (traditional or otherwise) and go to law school and be the President of the Harvard Law Review. The simple fact that he is a man who chose early on to serve the greater good as a community organizer and forgo a lucrative career at the top of a long chain of lawyers speaks encyclopedias of this man! May he carry on blessed by that same stewardship that has progressed him to this place in history and may all the world be more hopeful for having him in it!

Wax with hope.

WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL IF HE WERE ACTUALLY A “NATURAL BORN CITIZEN” AS IS REQUIRED OF THE PRESIDENCY. HE WAS BORN A BRITISH SUBJECT PER HIS OWN ADMISSION.

He has made a lot of people believe they can be anything they want.
