Quoting Poetically: One Blogger’s Cynicism of the Holiday Season

cartoon.jpg
Is it Capitalism or just the Holiday Season?

“Everywhere you look sleigh bells aren’t necessarily ringing, but green and red advertisements are around each bend, indeed. They’ve been up for some time now - Thanksgiving is barely a blip on the holiday radar unless you are a cranberry sauce maker - but somehow the sudden crispness of the winter air make these holiday purchase urgings more noticeable, applicable.” fellow blogger Kate in her short post, “Weathering the Holiday Marketing Storm” at the Cheesy Marketing Ramblings blog

Ya know, when Jesus told the rich, young ruler in the Gospel of Luke (Ch. 18:18-23) to go and sell all that he had, I’m not so sure he was also addressing the profiteers of Macy’s Holiday Shopping Super Clearance Sale. Rather he was calling his followers to leave behind riches, glory and material gain for sake of greater spiritual growth. Yes, money must be made to sustain a society and “keep the ship afloat” but let’s remind ourselves that whether we celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali (in October) or our birthdays, not to go too crazy over a Wii Fit or an iphone that we lose who we are!

Waxing you Happy Holidays
